Help! Is this thrush or something worse?

DD has thrush which we have been treating this week and I have been given cream for my nipples.
In the middle of last night one of my breasts has become very solid and painful, not in any particular spot but the whole area behind my nipple feels heavy and lumpy. There isn't any redness. Does this sound like thrush or does it sound more like mastitis? I can probably see a doctor this afternoon if need be...

I'm not a trained BFing Counsellor so shouldn't really be giving advice but....

If I was you I would feed as much as possible from that breast whilst gently stroking the lumps in the direction of the nipple.

Also, take a look here

Phone a BFing Counsellor to talk it through too. The nct one is open from 8 am till 10 pm 0300 330 0771.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

MrsHappy

How have you got on today. Have things improved?

I am a trained peer supporter and what ineed says is right continue to feed, does sound like thrush unless you have any flu like symptoms check on breastfeeding network's website they have some great leaflets with symptoms on.

and make an appointment at doctors, also make sure that if they prescribe anti biotics, they prescribe some more for dc.

Hello - sorry for not coming back sooner, it has been mayhem around here!

The boob is much better today, thank you. I've spent a lot of time in the bath attempting to hand express and also have been feeding the baby on that side first. It is still lumpy but no longer painful so I guess I am on the mend.

With hindsight I think I brought this on myself by feeding less on that side because I wanted it to have thrush cream on for as long as possible (and have to clean it off before feeding). I will know for next time, though!

Glad things are going better for you and hope the thrush clears up soon too.
