Heavy Painful Period After Stopping BF

Hi,

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but my LO is almost 6 months and I stopped breastfeeding around 10 days ago after stopping very gradually until I was just BFing for the first feed and then none.

As I cut down so gradually, I haven't had any problems except my period returned yesterday and it's ridiculously heavy and painful. I've never suffered with periods (but I was previously on the pill for 10 years or so) but I am having to use a tampon and a pad (sorry if TMI)

Is this nomral and my body just readjusting or should I be getting checked out? Can't seem to find any info online.

Many Thanks! x

Takes about three months for things to normalise - entirely normal, but horrid I agree.

I do think periods come back with avengance the first time or two. After ds1 was born I didn't have a period for about eight months. When I did the hormones were messing about so much I pulled loads of muscles without doing anything unusual and literally couldn't move my arms or legs, which was fun!

After all three kids, my periods came back heavier and more painful initially but it did settle down after a month or two. Hope you feel better soon.

oh god...i fed my ds for nearly 2 years (bitty anyone?! ) and my first proper period was HORRIFFICCCCC! really heavy beyond...like other posters, it took about 3 months to settle back to anything like it used to be like, but on the plus side, i now am regular as clockwwork (i never was before) and since using a mooncup, my periods are really quite light compared to what they used to be.
