Constipated baby?

Dd2 is 8 weeks old, exclusively bf. For the past three days she has not been pooing regularly. By evening time she gets v uncomfortable and eventually will do a big explosive poo later on. Any tips on how I can help her?

If you go to the doctors I think newborn baby's can have lactulose. But she may not be constipated it may just be how her system works when my ds was little if he was constipated you could see as he would strain so I would hold his legs so he had something to push against but dd 4months has yet to be constipated.

bf babies can go a week or more without pooing without being constipated. If it is still soft when it arrives then she is not constipated, she just goes a few days between poos.

It is soft, however up to 3 days ago she had a poo several times a day. Now, she is showing visible signs of being uncomfortable, I just want to help her. So, any suggestions of holds, massage, things I could eat that may help her via my breast milk etc would be welcomed.

It actually sounds normal. Some babies do feel uncomfortable when they poo. I'd try rubbing her stomach round clockwise and see if that helps, maybe she gets a bit of a tummy ache before she has a poo.

Try eating some vile lovely figs.

Had exactly the same thing peppermint, exactly the same.
Dd would be as rigid as a stick at the end of four or five days -- obviously constipated, although the poo would flow freely and generously when it eventually came out. Then a relaxed day.. then it would start to built up again...

We tried leg cycling, feeding then putting slanty on the knees position, a bouncy chair (ahem this was a long time ago), all sorts.

Eventually we went to a cranial osteopath which helped a lot. We went three times, each time was followed by lakes of poo, and she was relaxed a lot longer and pooing a lot more freely in between each episode of constipation.

But it didn't entirely go away so I weaned her onto green beans as early as I could, four months, maybe even just before. That solved it permanently.

Oh, its horrible seeing them in discomfort, isn't it? Our solution has been to put DD naked on the changing mat for 30 mins or so each night before her bath and cycle her legs around and rub her stomach and most evenings the poo seems to come pouring out of her even if she has had lots of full nappies that day. Its worth getting everything ready so you can pop your baby straight in the bath when she's done as it can get a bit messy!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, and empathy. I will give them all a try
I know that she is not unwell, but I just want to make her a little more comfortable.
