How many bf should a 9 month old have?

Hi, my 9 month DD is on 3 meals a day, drinks water from bottle and has 4 feeds a day. Not feeding after last night feed til 6am. Finding that not eating lunch or dinner well consistently. Health visitor said could feed in morning and evening only. What are other mums doing? Should I drop to 2 feeds?

Depends on your baby nd what you are happy with. My DD is nearly 10 months, barely eats any food and BF loads. DS2 was the same. DS1 on the other hand would eat lots at this age and had dropped to 2-3 BF a day.

Bubbles - do we have the same health visitor?

My HV thinks it's a race to ramp up the food and cut down the milk. The way I look at it is I've got six months to do it gradually.

Suppose it's the usual is baby gaining weight, wet / dirty nappies, happy.

My 8 month old feeds quite a few times in the day. I don't count I just go with his flow. He doesn't feed between 6.30 pm and 5am.

I was told at my ds 8 month check that he probably only needed 2 breastfeeds a day as he's on three big meals a day. He's now 10 months old and still on 4 bf a day. I feel that as he only drinks a tiny amount of water with lunch and dinner he still needs the milk. Otherwise he'd be going 12 hours without a proper drink! As long as he continues to be interested in these feeds I'll offer them.

He sleeps 7pm till 5.30/6 ish.

My 8 1/2 month old normally feeds morning, mid afternoon and evening then usually a feed in the early hours of morning (4am ish).
He eats 3 good meals a day and drinks water also.
I do not see it changing any time soon and I'm quite happy at the moment to carry on feeding when he wants it.

Mine was on 3 a day at that age, I found that if I gave a mid morning one he wasn't interested in lunch at all so I dropped it and bought lunch forward to stop him getting too hungry. Then gave him a mid afternoon breastfeed to get him to dinner time.

My DD sounds similar to WoTmania's, she's 13 mo and has little to no interest in solid food but prefers to be on the boob constantly. It's up to you and your DD how many times a day you BF her, as long as you are both healthy and your DD is putting on weight then there's nothing to worry about. Dunno what your HV is on about really
