Best nipple cream?

Hiya - just had no 3 and am starting the whole bf process.

Nipples REALLY REALLY sore, as in toe-curling for the first 15 or so seconds of every feed. I know I'm latching on correctly & that it should pass; am using lansinoh but wondered if there are any miracle new products out there to sooth sore nipples??

Wishing I could have a boob epidural or something!!

Using lansinoh already. Just wondered if there have been any new creams on the market since I last went through all this!!

I used lansinoh and a silicon dummy that I bit on really hard for the first few minutes. It did get better

My midwife has given me Jelonet, basically vaseline on a mesh which you put on nipple and areola in between feeds (kept in place with breast pads!), hasn't taken the initial pain away but it has stopped the horrendous cracked nipples! This is dc5 you'd have thought I would have found a solution some where....watching with interest

I didn't wear a bra for the first few weeks to let maximum air circulation get to them so they could harden up.
Lots of bras have polyester in them...

I used natural shea butter from the internet, 100% pure so that when the baby sucked it would ingest something natural.

Bubbaloo2 can I ask, if you didn't wear a bra, how did you wear breast pads? And if you didn't wear them, did you not leak everywhere?

Also, my breasts are so heavy atm, they really hurt if I am not wearing a bra.

OP I've always read that Lanisoh is the most recommended but you're already using that. Sorry!

kamillosan worked miracles for me.

put a bit onthe back of your hand, and rub with finger to soften, then apply. My nips werein a dreadful state, and this really did help heal them up.

princessmel I only wore a bra when I went out. Yes I leaked but just kept changing cotton T-shirts .. DH did the washing!
I didnt go out much for first few weeks until feeding settled down.
I also found that when I nipples were so sore... bras would stick and peel off thinnest amounts of skin. So used old skool idea of rubbing milk and airing them.

I got sheabutter from sheabutter cottage dot com. I used it for his excema later on too.

You could minimise the initial soreness by putting some ice in a plasic bag or cloth and holding it on your nipple to 'numb' then for a few minutes.That can be helpful although it can slow letdown because of the cold. You can also use visualisation techniques - concentrate on something other than the pain. Also alternate baby's position so it isn't always the same tender bit being irritated. As you said, it should pass soon.

Ok, am using copious amounts of lansinoh and my hypnobirthing breathing to breathe through the pain. This actually hurts more than the contractions!

Can someone remind me how long this bit lasts? How long does your milk take to come in?

Oh dear I just read that bit about the peeling skin and remembered opening the bra flap quickly, without thinking, quite a few times and whipping off a scab at the same time.
Cabbage leaves, which are good for engorgement, are also non stick and soothing generally.

My milk came in about 3/4 days.
Use hot flannels and massage before feeding to help with engorgement.

Lasts a couple of weeks... it gets so easy so soon you will really enjoy it.

ooh I'm remebering the pain now you say it!

my milk takes a good 5-7 days to come in but when it did it was so much easier. the only thing I found that helped was kansinoh cream no other suggestions I'm afraid

Sounds like you have let-down pain - I had it bad both times - it gradually lessens and lessens until it's gone.

I found breast shells brilliant as they allowed air to circulate and stopped anything touching, whilst collecting leaking milk.

Green baby nipple balm really worked for me. That, or Papaya cream that's like vaseline. can't remember the brand - anyone else tried it?

I didn't wear a bra either and just stuck breast pads to the inside of a t-shirt. Nursing tops with no bra are also good if they've got that extra layer bit on the inside as this gives some support and keeps pads in place too 12 wks in and only now am I wearing bras.

Got through tubes of Lansinoh cream too.

I am trying - gentle boob massage to encourage good let-down so DD2 (3days) doesn't need to suck so hard for so long to get it going
and
using different feeding positions to try out approaches to getting good latch and also latch/pressure points around nipple should be a little different each time.
Have started to get initial soreness but hoping to get through it!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Am feeling rather down today, although now just have one 'bad boob' and one 'good boob' which is better than before!

Am really hoping bf will work out this time as it hasn't in the past.

I'm sorry you're feeling low, passthevino. How old is your baby?It is very common to have pain and discomfort at the start but it does pass.

If your baby is tiny maybe it's a bit of the baby blues as well?

Have you got help at home with the other two?
