my 5.5mth old has a bf at 5:30pm, then the bath, then we offer a bottle of formula. I got into the habit after stopping bf and restarting - wanted to make sure he was getting enough milk. The trouble is that he's started screaming during the bottle feed. He'll start well, scream for ages, then restart and take 4-7ozs quite happily. He does it whoever feeds him. I haven't started him on solids yet. He sleeps well (when it isn't too hot ) Any thoughts? Should I still be splitting the feed? Will it sort itself out when I start him on solids? Help please - it's driving us insane.

my 6 month old scream through his 6pm bottle ( i think its tiredness) then goes to bed, sometines still crying a little (bad mummy) but has his 10pm feed fine, the next 6 am feed he really screams......

Funnilly enough my other half gives these feed (grudgingly) and I think little man knows this...

Not much help but have you tried holding him to your chest with a dummy, mine begins to drop off almost straight away and then i pop the bottle back in??

Gini - nice thought but he's screaming so much he won't take hold of it. He's usually fine once we've calmed him down but it's starting to feel like we're torturing him. DH normally does the feed and he's started to dread it. I did it tonight and got really stressed. It's the not knowing why that makes it so hard.

I have to say my typing is bad (better part of a bottle of wine!) but Josh goes mad when you first hold him to you but I run my finger along his eyebrow and nose and then he goes off....

it is hard, but I guess we all get there in the end??.....

Could he be wanting to breastefeed and resent the bottle? Is it his only bottle?

I would stop the bottle unless there is a reason you need to give it.

thanks for the replies. I think I'll take your advice and drop the bottle tomorrow & hope he still gets enough food. I'll give it a few days but if he keeps waking in the night I'll try putting it back with a faster teat. Funnily enough he'll take water from a bottle quite happily, it seems to be just this feed.

why are you worried he might not get enough millk?
In my experience the only time i've struggled to feed my youngest is when i've tried making her have bottles. my middle daughter happily took to mixed feeding tho , so best to just do what works for you.
On advice of my 3 year old 'doo doos are best mummy!' she has no doubt what her favourite food is! lol
