I need anyone to please give me advice on what to do. I have a nine month old that has recently started to bite me (she has two bottom teeth) and refuses to feed on me. She takes her morning feed very well but I cannot get to feed on me during the day. It's very upsetting and I don't know what to do. She is well established on solids and has water whenever she wants it.

I have hayfever and recently started taking herbal tablets to relieve my hayfever. Surely they could be affecting my milk or her feeding?

Please someone get in touch xx

Anything that you ingest could affect your milk - maybe your milk is OK in the mornings because it hasn't been affected by the tablet? Try stopping for a day or two and see if it makes a difference.

It's worth mentioning that just because something is herbal, doesn't mean it's safe to take whilst breast-feeding. Do check it out and make sure it's OK if you decide to continue to take it.

hi lovebabies, when ds started biting me i was given the following advice. Dont yelp or pull back instead gentley push babies head into breast so that babies mouth opens for air and then remove from breast. Did this with ds and it really worked! he stopped nipping me pretty much straight away. Re hayfever herbal tablets - as wwb says - check it out, hv or nurse should be able to advice.

Hi,

dd never bit me but gradually refused the breast. During the last weeks I was feeding her only mornings and evenings but then she started pushing me away in the morning and a few days later in the evening too. She was very much established on solids with bottles of formula during the day. So I guessed it was the time to stop breastfeeding and we switched to all formula. It was her decision to stop, not mine, I felt quite sad actually !
She stopped when she was 8.5 months.

Thank you all for your help. Sarah is now feeding only in the mornings and sometimes that is a bit of a fight so I guess she'll stop soon.

My DS stopped the breast at 7 months old. Did not bite, but just was not interested. He was well established on solids, and although I had planned to feed much longer, I did not see any point in trying to force the issue as neither of us was enjoying the struggle.

ds bit me a couple fo times around 9mo and I was too tense to let him do it after that - but I did continue to express till he was 1yo - although he really only got 4 oz of bm a day. But i thought 4 oz is better than nothing - plus it was over winter and I wanted him to have as many of my antibodies as poss.
