Gallons of milk - worth using breast shells?

I seem to have an abundant supply of milk - if i am feeding from one side i am soaking through my clothes from the other

have heard about breast shells (i think that is waht they are called) which could collect the milk (which i assume can then be stored)

also, if my supply is good is it worth trying to express at this point? DD is 4 weeks old

TIA

I use these to collect from the breast that DD can't latch onto. Keeps me in expressed milk for crisis times (like today!!).

My friend uses these and freezes the excess which seems to work well. She also says that they help keep her nipples dry unlike pads and she feels more comfortable when out as she's not worrying about leaks.

I was advised that you shouldn't keep the milk collected if you wear them between feeds as you can't keep everything sterile enough - just while you're feeding from the other breast.

A word of warning - I bought Medela shields and a note in the instructions said you should throw away any milk collected there.

I have no idea why...
