GA and breastmilk?

A friend of mine has just discovered she's miscarrying and may opt for an ERPC. She's still bf her toddler and is worried about the effect of the anaesthetic drugs on her breastmilk. I told her I was pretty sure GA drugs didn't pose a problem for feeding, particularly since she's feeding once daily now and will probably not give her toddler a feed for a good 10 hours after the operation.

Was I right? I'm paranoid now that I said the wrong thing, but I'm sure I've read that this is right.

Well, people give birth under GA, and feed as soon as they are awake don't they.

I believe that as the GA drugs have a very short biological half life, they are out of your system almost as soon as you are fully awake. And they don't just stay in bm either, they will go at the same rate.

That's what I thought - it's out of the system very quickly, and of course some people have no option other than give birth under an anaesthetic. Ok, thanks, I'll let them know.

I'm gutted that she's having a mc - they have been through unbelievable shit and now this. I hope she doesn't let the GA put her off - I've experienced miscarriage where I 'let things happen' and another where I opted for surgical management, and I'd choose the ERPC any day.

If she lets the anaesthetist know she's still BFing as they may want to tweak what they give her.
