Posterior Tongue Tie

My DD has just been diagnosed with Posterior Tongue Tie and we are having it snipped tomorrow. I have had very sore nipples for 11 weeks and it is a relief to have a reason for it to be honest. However, I wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem and whether the snip helped and how long it took to have any effect.

yep, ds2 had his snipped at 3 weeks. the procedure was soooo quick. he was asleep and he didn't even wake up! he spat out a tiny bit of saliva tinged with blood, but that was it.

feeding was improved imediately although i still had a couple of positioning problems i needed help with. hadn't noticed as thepain from the tongue tie wsa confusing matters!

Oh thank you!! So good to know this is coming to an end (hopefully). Been a nightmare.

I gave up with my first son at around 18 weeks, his tongue tie wasn't diagnosed until after i'd stopped feeding and i was pretty gutted to say the least!

Had the tongue tie done on Friday and it is still no better. I am at my wits end here - can anyone tell me if this just takes time? Help!!

vicki, haveyou seen a proper breastfeeding counsellor?
IME it is very much worth seeing one in person if you can because they will be able to spot any problems you might have with positioning or latch that is very difficult to diagnose over the phone/online

do you have a local baby cafe? (www.thebabycafe.co.uk) or la leche league group?
as I said before, we still needed to do work on our positioning after ds2 had his tongue tie cut, the painfrom the tongue tie can mask any other problems I think
I also had a fair am0ount of pain feeding ds3 in the beginning and that was just apoitioning problem too- it's amazing how just small changes canimprove it

Hi dd3 had Tongue tie snipped at 3 weeks and feeding improved immediately but my nipples remained sore for about4 weeks afterwards. It all takes time to heal. But check for mastitis ( I had two bouts of it ) and thrush. O also expressed feeds for two days to give nipples a rest and slathered on the lansinoh.

I know this post is a little out of date but I have had similar problems and am at the end of my tether. DD diagnosed with ptt at 4 weeks and we have had it snipped a week ago. Been to craniosacral therapist and chiropractor and still no improvemnent. Seen several bf councillors, lacation consultant etc and have tried every position going but feeding causes pain which continues throbbing even when not feeding. dd does not latch properly- her mouth closes on nipple and clamps on. Was your experience similar and at what point did it get better? I can't express as my nips hurt so much, and i really don't want to use formula- just wish i knew when things would improve as it feels like they never will. Thanks for reading xx

have you been taught the exaggerated latch technique? there have been previous threads about it, it really helped me. Let me know if you want me to hunt them out.

Could also be Vasospasm or raynauds (very common with TT as damage to the nipple seems to bring it on). these are useful:
