constipation

baby hasn't pooed in 8 days.. normal patern is 5.
every where i read it says bf babies don't get constipated..
my worry is he is strianing a lot and gerttting very distressed.. tho does settle for long periods in between..
should i worry?

If your baby is older than a few weeks, then this is likely to be normal, hairband.

Some babies do seem to be distressed in the day or so before the explosion which is never anything but soft and easy to pass (so not constipation).

A few very rare conditions which affect the bowel functioning can happen as a result of a congenital condition in babies whether bf or ff, but you would have seen symptoms of these shortly after the birth.

You could give your HV a call and get some reassurance today, rather than worry over the weekend if he is still hanging on tomorrow and Sunday
