I'm going crazy. 42 days ago I had my first period after my 1 year old DS was born. I keep on thinking I'm pregnant - I don't know if I even want to be pregnant . So much is going on - my DH wants 3 kids (we already have 2), my boss wants to know if I am coming back to work, I don't know if I am disappointed or relieved. I just want some CERTAINTY - is that too much to ask?

Sorry for the rant...

My second period came about 8 weeks after my first I think. I think its normal for it to take a while for things to settle down. If the test shows negative then I wouldn't worry about it!

shouty, I saw this yesterday, but didn't have time to reply.

It is quite possible that your first period has been anovulatory bleeding rather than a true period. Unless you know you ovulated of course!

IIRC, anovulatory bleeding tends to be much further apart than bleeding where ovulation has occurred because the hormones are not being triggered by ovulation. (scuse the unscientific explanation!!)

So if it was anovulatory bleeding, then you cannot be pregnant!

i hope you get an answer one way or the other soon!

Hi mawbroon. Thanks for your message -it was shorter than I would expect (just 3 days I think). I gave up breastfeeding last week, so presumably risk of ovulating and getting a real period is now higher??? What do I know - I am now on day 44 or maybe day 1 or day 7 or day ???? I think natural family planning is probably not ideal for a while....

Do you know how to spot the signs of ovulation?

I know I bang on about this book a lot, but I would really recommend that you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. In fact I think every woman should read it! It is fascinating.

I'd know the signs if i were looking but as I wasn't trying to get pregnant, i wasn't looking. 9 months + 1 year of no periods really stopped me focussing on it TBH.

Congratulations! I have 3 under 4 (DD1 3.9, DD2 2.1, DD3 0.5). What are your DC's ages?

3 preschoolers is a doddle. Honestly . I managed it and I'm one of the most scatty disorganised people on Earth (closely beaten into second by my flakey cousin)
Congrats anyway I'm sure you'll manage FINE.
(same thing (almost) happened to me BTW so you have my sympathies0

When DC arrives, DD will be 4.5 and DS will be 21 months. As DH says, DD can look after herself. My main issue now is do I go back to work pregnant - is that acceptable? I don't know how I'll look my boss in the eye.
