dd3 is cutting her 1st teeth, need help with feeding.

she is only 14weeks old. has two very sharp little teeth poking through.

i know i can carry on feeding, but how do i stop a young baby from biting? she is already having a gummy chomp every now and then.

please?

cos she just bit my thumb!!

if she bites then just push her nose into your boob... she'll open her mouth to breathe.

soon she'll realise that when she bites... she has to let go!

I've had success with starlover's technique. I've also done well with just putting down the baby and walking away (granted, with an older baby). Yes, the baby will cry, but if it stops them biting you, it's all for the best.

dd also got her teeth v. early and i had a few nasty bites. i shrieked and eventually she stopped doing it. i gave her a teething powder before feeds to make her less likely to need to chomp on something.

misdee, my ds (7mths) bites me too and it's very painful. i have shouted out 'no' and it startles him but unfortunately he still seems to be doing it, not at every feed but a lot of the time. my hv told me that some babies just can't help biting, other people have told me that they will stop if you show them enough times that they won't be fed if they bite. hope you have some luck!

bitten twice today, said no and stopped the feed. she is quite happy in herself though, so not starving her. cant belive she cut her teeth before 4months old. should've expected it as dd2 cut hers very early as well.

feeds are getting short as she bits me more. she still seems happy. is going for marathon feeds in the evening with hardly any biting.

but still upset that she bites me. those two little teeth are very sharp.

Remember she has no idea that she is hurting you. She's just chomping...not chomping you. She LOVES you!
Dreading dd getting teeth. Ds didn't get any for over a year, which was great, breastfeeding wise.

why couldnt dd3 leave the teeth cutting for at least another 3months. if she doesn stop, then i may have to consider stopping breastfeeding, and tbh i dont want to.

misdee, I think if they are biting that means they are not all that hungry, if hungry they will suck. So don't feel bad about stopping feeding when she bites, she'll soon get the message. I seem to remember being told that if you scream, some babies will bite just to get that great reaction from Mum, better to bite your lip! (though difficult!!)
