Tesco break the WHO code

And of every one of these threads someone comes on and says, "But why shouldn't I get clubcard points on formula?" or, "I don't know anyone who would stop bf-ing because they might get clubcard points." The point is, it's against Code for a reason. Formula milk should not be something which has extra incentives added to it, anymore than Nestle should sponsor nurses in the Phillipines, or Bounty hand out mini pots of Sudocrem.

Please do complain to Tesco and to Trading Standards. It's insane that Tesco have done this, when they must know full well what the marketing code for infant formula is.

Not just the WHO code, UD, but the UK law.

This is important. Lots of people don't care about the WHO code and I imagine Tesco don't either, but they do care about the law in this country.

Fucking hell, that's appalling! As a massive company they obviously have a legal team, so I doubt they could do that by accident. So blatant

They don't offer reward points on cigarette sales do they, for precisely the reason you state. I am therefore sure that Tesco absolutely know the law around formula.

When I reported Waitrose for contravening the law on promotion, the local Trading Standards office was there in two days, and got the office for head office round within the week - so they do take it seriously

Bit off topic but I ordered a pack of own brand nappies today for dd (3 months) and it has a massive photo of a tiny baby been bottle fed ....WHY? Why do they need to show a baby feeding at all on nappies .

Will be complaining about the formula promotion in the morning TAFKA .

CWWM - it's all about creating an image, i think. So you show a baby being fed (breast or bottle) and it's shorthand for nurturing, comfort, and general fluffiness. The Tory party got into trouble for using a bottle fed baby on their adverts, for the same reasons!

The law is there for two reasons

• to protect breastfeeding (which can be, socially, quite fragile, and which has no mega-global-business to support it)

• to ensure that mothers who use formula for whatever reason choose their brands based on their babies' specific health needs, in discussion with their HCPs if they wish, and not based on this week's special offer

I think it was Tesco a while ago who put out a parent and baby leaflet with a page of things for mum which were mostly breastpumps and associated kit. This was before ds2 was born and I ff DS1 from early on (not by choice) and I still thought, how is this stuff for me?

Think the message needs to be clear. No Clubcard points on formula as this is an incentive.

No, you don't get Advantage or Nectar points on formula. And shouldn't, either, because - as tiktok says - tis illegal.
