I don't think it's a good idea. Most women have increased appetites when BF and for a reason - your blood sugar may drop seriously if you don't eat, having a 6 week old baby is exhausting anyway even if not BF and your body is not fully recovered. Islam takes care of you - it does not expect you to do this, but it's your choice, Maybe you should give it a try but drink or eat if you feel ill.

thank you for replies, my fasting is not to show people, its something i spiritually want to be part of, but not the risk of dd2's food. also i can't drink water when fasting, its not the way, thank you alot of the suggestion though.

thank you little ducks, as you know i have to make up those fats sometime later on.

im really grateful for all you replies.

oh believe me i know, i have quite a few to do, i was intending to keep fasting after Eid while i was still all in the rhythem to make up mine

it is worth remembering the benefit of paying to feed the poor though, that in itself is such a good deed, when you watch some of the tv appeals this time of year and see how hungry people can be i wish i could give so much of my money but without the reminder at other times of the year i become distracted and forget

and i forgot to congratulate on your new baby!

Salaams,

May I direct you to this website which discusses the Islamic and medical evidence regarding fasting when pregnant/breastfeeding in fair detail.

What makes you / your friend think that she's not producing enough? If she is breastfeeding on demand and not giving anything else to the baby then it is very, very unlikely that she would have any problems with her supply. Some babies just feed constantly, but that's not a supply problem.

With a 6-week old baby fasting is the last thing you should be considering! You surely need every bit of your energy for you and your very young baby.
