Hi,

I just need some reassurance really, My 5 week old is pooing lots and seems to be in pain grunting etc as she evacuates- I presumed this was normal due to an immature digestive system but now i'm beginning to worry that it could be a sign off illness- her poos have stayed the same yellow colour and she's exclusivley bf. She is still giving me lots of wet nappies and seems to be growing- hasn't been weighed for 3 weeks. She is alert and has recently started to sleep a lot better.

Is 5 poos in 1 day ok? Or should I be worried?

My son is the same age, and he sometimes does 4 or 5 a day, other days fewer. Are they all BIG blowouts, or sometimes just a little splat (!) ? The grunting I think is because they are quite windy at this age - my son is, anyway. I would get her weighed just to put your mind at rest, and check with your HV about the poos, but I'm sure she's fine.
