Formula (SMA) : HAVE YOU FOUND.................

That your little one is constipated on SMA? My son was getting severe constipation and would scream every time he had to do a poo, changed from SMA to Aptamil he is doing better now and has 'normal' poo. And no more screaming.

I just thought I would share in case anyone else is going through the same.

Norash - SMA agreed with my children, but my friend had to do the same as you. In fact she tried a few before she found that Aptamil really suited. It's just trial and error I think. Glad your wee one is okay now.

Thanks tooth ache , I am glad I had the wisdom of other mumsneters as I might have had to go through trying a few other types but most of the people on here voted for Aptamil.

I think that's quite a common problem with SMA.

Ds is on SMA Staydown which does make him constipated (but I can understand that!). He has one bottle of Aptamil a day to keep things moving.

norash · 30/05/2005 19:29

Hey Fruitful why use it iif iit makes him constipated? Why not just switch compeletely.

My little boy had SMA and would not go for a poo for days! The Health Visitor told me to add a little extra water to the formula in the end and that worked for us. With the warmer weather now it may be that this would get things moving. Good luck!

compo · 30/05/2005 20:35

nope didn't find this at all. Ds was regualr as clockwork on sma gold since 5 weeks. Still goes at least twice a day, bless him

starlover · 30/05/2005 20:52

norash, fruitfuls ds is on SMA staydown... presumably for reflux

Gobbledigook · 30/05/2005 20:53

Yes I did find this but have had no problems with Cow and Gate at all.

fruitful · 30/05/2005 20:56

Yep, the SMA Staydown means he doesn't throw up a quarter of every feed, hooray! Still spits up a lot but its a few teaspoons rather than a few ounces. He has to have a bigger bottle of the Aptamil, to allow for throwback...

pupuce · 30/05/2005 20:57

SMA gold has a reputation for constipation.
Now I can't believe a formula is called staydown.... what message does that convey LOL

norash · 30/05/2005 21:54

My son was on SMA for hungrier babies, and would not go for days, but when I swapped over to Aptamil he now going at least once a day.
