and if so, does anyone know why that is? I've hard it said that it takes nutrients - well, obviously it does; but to the mother's detriment? anyone had more energy when they stopped?

It made me sleepy to begin with. Also being up all night makes me tired. How much sleep do you get?

The act itself makes me drowsy - maybe experts here can confirm, but I've heard that it's due to hormone release in the mother and baby. So it helps the baby sleep and ensures that the mother rests.

How that it supposed to work when I have a toddler too I don't know!

Very little just at the moment! My baby's eight months and I'm only just saying no to night feeds, and pretty gently even then, so it's my fault! But the b'feeding does feel draining at times ... lovely though it is. am not complaining, exactly!

bfing can make you sleepy, esp at night - nature's own hormone feedback loop helping both you and the baby get back to sleep

you fulfil the nutrient need by (er) feeling hungrier and eating more.

singingbear interesting you should say that about energy levels. i am bfing my 12mo and i kepe realised that my energy levels are really low. Maybe when i eventually stop i'll perk up. hmm....
