LEAKING at night. I am so tired of the uncomfortable things I wear to try and keep the breast pads in place. I lay in bed this morning and dreamt of going to Dragon's Den with my new invention - comfortable nightwear for the breast feeding mother. Any tips????

I'm surprised anyone wears a bra in bed

I leaked for at least the first six months with each of my three girls

I would never sleep in a bra or clothes its horrid and how do you feed in the night without really waksing up

seems crazy
just sleep on a towel

But my nipples point up

The few times I have gone braless, DD stays latched on more or less all night and I was up half the night fending her off. Sleeping a bra slows her down a bit and means I get some sleep!

When I leaked it wasn't just the sheets underneath that got milky though, it was the duvet as well.

I am third time around now. I wear a soft bra. I feed from right boob before bed, then leave it out to air. In the night, I feed from left boob then leave that out to air. I can't stand the sensation of milk dripping down my breasts, it wakes me up.

I leaked like mad - still do at times but it's worst when I feed, the other side lets down and dribbles down me. DS is a year old.
I always have a muslin tucked under my pillow to put over the boob that DS isn't feeding from, and in the early days I used to sleep on a towel.

In hindsight I wore a bra too much in bed and I'm sure it made my thrush worse. Next time around I will just spray happily

Dita don't boast

Btw - were you LL somewhere else? I think I recognise you

DitaVonCheese · 06/08/2009 00:25

Somewhere purpler/pinker?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/08/2009 10:06

Ay

posieparkerinChina · 06/08/2009 10:08

I leaked last night and dc4 is nine months!

DitaVonCheese · 06/08/2009 10:49

Ooh!

I was sitting next to an old lady once on a bench in the park, BFG and my DS let go of my nipple! My milk squirted high into the air and nearly landed on the old lady and I had to apologised! She went some where else.

I sleep on old towels topless at night and have a waterproof bed sheet.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/08/2009 11:47

I sleep in the Carriwell nightime bra. It really works for me as I don't leak when I wear one, however I do leak if I go topless.

I think the sheets/duvet rubbing against bare nipples stimulates my letdown.

Catilla · 06/08/2009 11:52

This was really comfy. Lots of places sell the Carriwell maternity bra (also v v comfy - I still wear mine!) but very few the feeding version. Bit of a contortion act to get it on... as it goes over your head and tends to roll up a bit, but once you have it sorted, is comfy, keeps pads in place, and keeps boobs separate (lots of "soft" bras let top boob fall down and away from pad when I lay on my side. Oh and my boobs went up to H cup while feeding - so not only for small people!

And I heartily recommend Lansinoh disposable breast pads - much the thinnest & most absorbent without leaks.
