Even after a good BF Elijah is wildly gumming his fist. He's been doing this for the last three days. I can't remember when DS2's teeth started coming through five years ago. Could it be teeth at 12 weeks?

I suppose it could, but don't babies just like 'chewing' their hands anyway?

tiffini · 19/05/2005 23:31

have you tried putting your fingers in hsi mouth, if he chews it is probably teething, if he sucks, he may still be hungry

dd2 cut her teeth at around 16 weeks old.

dd2 is now 12 weeks as well, and loves chewing her hands. dont think she is teething, she just lvoes chewing her hands. she is fasicnated by them.

Hi Bubble - it could be teeth - but is a stage of development as well. Babies of about this age discover that they have these fascinating play things that seem to be around all the time (albeit swooping in and out of view in a strange fashion!) and since they find out about the world with their mouths a lot more than we do the obvious place for them is between the gums

My DD started doing exactly the same at about 13 weeks. She's 20 weeks today & no sign of teeth. She stuffs her hands in her mouth when she's:
a) hungry
b) has wind
c) bored
d) upset/frustrated

Does he seem upset when he does it or is he just exploring the world through his mouth?

hub2dee · 20/05/2005 09:32

Maybe he just needs some borscht soup ?

LOL.

my ds does this aswell hes 8 months and doesnt have any teeth yet but hes never had a dummy or a comforter so i think its his comforter, although i think hes teething at the moment, hes always dont the fist thing

ds2 is 11 weeks and doing this. not hungry
think he has just 'found'his hands

Babies do just chew their hands. They chew everthing as it is a normal part of development to explore with their mouths. And they get fascinated by their hands. DD looks so sweet clasping and unclasping her hands.
