Erm, might have just posted this:
Comparison of breastfeeding with going to the toilet/sex is a non sequitur if you haven't got a better argument just say you don't like it!
Nobody is going to force you to look, nobody is going to make you like it. You do not have the right to never be offended by what you see or hear. I'm not going to stop feeding my child when he needs it and I'm not going to tut at a women or man who feeds their child by bottle. Each family needs to find a way that's right for them. I am going to tell you should you come up to me - nobody has so far - to mind your own business and don't look if you don't want to see. I find what a lot of people aren't wearing to be quite distasteful but it's their choice and if I don't like it I won't look twice.
BTW the benefits to mother and baby are staggering:
Artificially fed babies are at greater risk of:
gastro-intestinal infection
respiratory infections
necrotising enterocolitis
urinary tract infections
ear infections
allergic disease (eczema and wheezing)
insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
sudden infant death syndrome
childhood leukaemia.
and breastfed babies may have better:
neurological development.
Breastfed babies have reduced risk of:
Cardiovascular disease in later life
Sunden Infant Death
Women who have breastfed are at lower risk of:
breast cancer
ovarian cancer
hip fractures and bone density.
Breastfeeding may also provide protection against:
multiple sclerosis
acute appendicitis
tonsillectomy
For the mother
rheumatoid arthritis
For these if for no other reason people who don't like me breastfeeding in public can look away.
