breastfeeding and smear tests

Does anyone know whether you can have a smear test before your periods start again? I'd really like to get it over and done with while I'm feeling organised (otherwise I will forget and it will be years!!)

Yes its fine as long as you are more than 12 weeks post natal it doesn't matter if you haven't had a period.

Yes you can. I had mine done at my 6 week check after ds2 was born.

Yes you can - put mine off for ages thinking you couldn't, wish I'd just thought to ask on MN!

babyOcho · 13/07/2009 10:43

yes, i had one done just before they returned.

I've just had mine and I haven't had a period for nearly 3 years (either pregnant, or breastfeeding, or both).

Thanks, that's great. I've just had a conversation with the doctors receptionist who said I couldn't get one done until 6 months after the birth and when my periods were back... I knew the 6 months thing was nonsense. I will get back to her.
