Please help. I think i have breast thrush in the ducts. The only thing that is a questionmark is that i am very tender on one side, it hurts if i press that side, a deep tender pain which doesn't improve with massagee or feeding, i have random shooting pain in both breasts, could this all be thrush?

I would see your G.P. a.s.a.p. I had similar symptoms plus shivering & feverishness in the early weeks of breastfeeding. Pain rapidly became excruciating. Doctor diagnosed mastitis & prescribed antibiotics which knocked it on the head promptly & put me out of my misery .

It's strange though as i have no lumps or redness, just really tender. i am going to see a nurse at the doctors, but am worried as i'm not sure she'll know the difference and the receptionist refused to give me a doctors appointment.

What a mean receptionist . My local surgery was very good at organising immediate attention if you're a breastfeeding/new mum & you should get the same consideration given how quickly matters can deteriorate. I'm sure that the nurse can ask the G.P. for their opinion/prescription once you're there . I understand that even G.P.s sometimes find it tricky to distinguish but at least you're sorting it out rather than suffering more than necessary. Good luck, wishing you a quick recovery.

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like it might be both... or at least blocked ducts and thrush.

Have you tried massaging with a warm flannel (in the bath helps) and expressing?

ilovesummer · 17/06/2009 13:52

Do you think that I can be treated for both at the same time?

sorry didn't see your last post fran, thank you both for your help. I do hope i can get it sorted, I seem to become all pathetic and 3 bags full when I see anyone medical.

ilovesummer - yes, I was. insist on a doctors appt - you don't have to tell the receptionist why you need it.

Did you get on o.k.?

Hi there,

Hope you have got sorted. I think I have mastitis and like you I had no redness at all - until last night. I had soreness and pain in my left breast for about a week before the redness appeared! I will contact my GP on Monday but in the meantime plan to breastfeed as much as I can from that breast and express any extra milk, as my DD doesn't drain the breasts very often.

Horrible, isn't it?

xx
