Stabbing pains after feeding

DD is 6 months and BF has gone fine up until the last month or so. Every time I feed her I get stabbing pains in my boobs like someone is sticking pins in me...it is agony and I am seriously thinking about stopping, even though I intended to feed her til she was old enough for cows milk.
It coincided with her becoming more aware and nosey and I noticed she started pulling away while she was feeding so she could look at things, I am not sure whether it is to do with this, or something else.
There is nothing I can see, that looks out of the ordinary and DD seems fine.
Any advice would be gratefully received as the constant pain getting me down and making me generally very grumpy.

when I used to get that same feeling, it was normally when mine had finally got the hang of draining my breast completely and it was 'filling up pain' (IYGWIM).

however, if it has only just started for you, it might be worth getting checked to ensure it is not thrush or mastitis starting.

it sounds like it could be thrush. Can you get a GP appointment? Are you otherwise well?

Deffo sounds like thrush to me. If it is, you'll need to see your GP and get cream for yourself and oral drops for your DD to prevent re-infection.

Could be thrush, but also could be referred nerve pain if part of the tissue is being compressed in a certain way during feeds. I'd suggest finding a local bf expert (try calling all the helplines) to observe a feed to check positioning and attachment first. Once that has been ruled out then definitely consider thrush.

Thrush can start from trauma to the nipple and when they pull off without letting go first it's pretty damn traumatic so it could be that.

If it is stabbing pains and it does turn out to be thrush it sounds like it is pretty deep in the breast tissue, in which case creams will probably do bugger all to help.

I had a feeling this is what everyone might say...I don't know anything about thrush...are there any symptoms? Me or DD? Both me and DD are well otherwise.

I know it is nothing to do with my let down, that is a completely different feeling.
I have had a few 'blockages' on and off right since I 1st started feeding her, but have managed to feed through them. They have not got any worse.
I have had mastitis before, I don't think it's that, as I had a temperature and felt dreadful with it.
