Constant sickness in BF baby.

I've posted here before about a suspected dairy intolerance in my (now) 7 week old DS. I've been really good since, but yesterday afternoon made the mistake of risking some cheese.

Now every time he feeds he's sick within a minute or two, after a period of obvious discomfort.

I'm worried because of the heat & I don't want him to become dehydrated. He won't feed for long at the moment & brings a fair bit up each time, making me think that he can't be retaining much. He also immediately starts screaming because he's still hungry.

Am I being paranoid & PFB? At the moment I'm just carrying on as normal & feeding on demand (constantly, apart from the short bursts of crying before being sick & when he sleeps out of sheer exhaustion) & am already exhausted after very, very little sleep last night & appear to be facing the same again. Is there something better I could be doing?

My ds2 had some health problems when he was 3 weeks old and the hospital thought it could be a dairy allergy and suggested I follow a dairy free diet. I was told it would be a minimum of 5 days before we saw any results but that it could take up to a month before we saw any effects. As it turned out ds2 didn't have a dairy allergy.

I think it is too early to say whether some cheese you ate yesterday is affecting him today. I would make an appointment to see your GP though, don't worry about whether you are being PFB, you have concerns - I have always been told to go with my gut instincts.

Just keep going as you are. I know it is tiring constantly feeding, but if you do that dehydration shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry had to go and sort out ds2 so didn't finish saying what I wanted to. I think the heat may be playing a big part in how your lo is. I know it is affecting ds 2 a lot.

Thanks for your reply - wasn't sure I'd get any response at this time. The sickness does seem to have been better since I started avoiding dairy, but it could just be a coincidence. That's partly why I risked the cheese - I hoped it'd be fine & I'd be able to eat breakfast cereal with proper milk again

You could be right about the heat though. I've tried hard to keep him cool, but it's been pretty relentless recently. I'm not generally PFB at all, but I know I'd be struggling with so little intake of fluid at the moment & I don't want him to get poorly. I don't mind losing the sleep if it's going to help, obviously.

I've heard about cooled, boiled water but don't know if it's necessary / advisable?

You cuold try giving a little boiled water. I was told that was fine, just not to give too much incase it fill them up too much.

I expect though that he is getting more than you think, also a little sick goes a long way so hopefully he isn't bringing up as much as it looks.

You really do have my sympathies on the lack of sleep in the last 2 nights I may have got about 4 hours sleep in little 1/2 hour batches. My ds2 is not sleeping well. I'm not sure quite how I managing to function today.
