SMA gold to SMA white - recommendations please!!!

Our son is 6 weeks old. He is currently on SMA gold. He takes 4oz anything up to every four hours (doesn't happen often!!) but in the last few days he has been wanting it every two to 3 hours. He does wriggle quite alot, and we do feel like he has a quick metabolism as he is quite a warm baby.

We have tried upping his amounts but then all he does is have the extra oz or so, then he chucks it back up again! We have already tried him on Aptimil, but that just made him really irritable and quite a horror to live with! Can any comment on whether it would be a good idea to move onto SMA white?? Would he end up putting on lots of weight, or is it just a formula that takes longer to digest? My HV says not to change, but she did kinda brush what I was saying under the carpet.

I am a new mum so any advice would be welcome, thanks.

I don't know anything about SMA as I've never used that brand but feeding every two or three hours is to be expected at that age. Ignore the four hours the packs tell you in the feeding guidelines and feed on demand.

DS was ff three hourly up until we started weaning. We never hit the magic four hourly feeds the manufacturers claim!

The strange thing is he has managed 4 hours before so I don't understand why it keeps on changing apart from that it just may not be filling him up productively anymore!!

He may be having a growth spurt and therefore is looking for extra milk. Breast fed babies do the same.
SMA White takes longer to digest and often makes babies constpiated. The advice is to stay on first milk if you can. Feed him when he wants rather than to a set pattern.
