Feeding double the amount?! Help!

Since starting FF my ds at 3 weeks I have gone on the advice of my HV and MW. This was to feed on demand but roughly every 3 hours starting with 3oz feeds and increasing it by an oz when he drains every bottle.
He is now 6 weeks and 10lbs (was 4 weeks prem and weighed 6lb 8oz at birth)
Am ashamed to say that I have only just now looked at the back of the tin and it says he should only be having 5 5oz feeds in 24 hours. If I feed roughly every 3 hours then he is having 9 5oz feeds in 24 hours!
I appreciate they are only guidelines but should he really be having double the recommended amount?!

Is he following HIS line on the weight charts?

Some of my babies have drank more than recomended especially my premmies but it's evened back out when they started solids.

He is probably playing catch up as he would have been lighter than he was 'supposed' to be at birth if he was 4 weeks early. DS was tha same at 6 weeks (and wasnt prem!) and fed 3 hourly day and night for a few more weeks too. I never went by the tin as it is a guide based on the average baby which very few people have. I would be guided by your lo rather than what the tin says. (p.s. every 3 hours would give 8 feeds in 24 hours)

Along with your lo making up for lost time, he could also be having a growth spurt where they are extra hungry and the feeding will settle back down again (until the next one!)
