Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of using Daktarin oral gel?

I have tried two courses of Nystatin for my baby's thrush and it was subsiding a bit, but it has really flared up again. I have been trying the gel since Friday but the thrush now seems to be as bad as its ever been. I am also using Daktarin on my nipples.

Please, please can anyone recommend the best ways to use the gel effectively? I have read in the BFN leaflet that it needs to be applied over the whole mouth - easier said than done with a 11 week old baby and I can only really get it on the end of his tongue... It's so hard to know if my efforts are doing any good.

I really am so fed up and frustrated with it - advice and success stories would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

Hi
I am currently using Daktarin oral gel on my 7mth ds. I was told by GP to apply to his mouth in the way you describe. But I find it easier to put it on the front of his tongue and he sort of eats it IYSWIM? I do try to put as much as i can to the areas i can see and it seems to be doing the trick.
Can i ask how you're managing with feeding. My left side is so painful and i dread having to feed on that side. I'm using canestan cream but it's effects are taking longer to see.
Thanks

Hi VeeBee,

Feeding is sore, especially at first, although it is bearable. I find the shooting pains after a feed more miserable than the actual feeding though.

Hopefully if I can get on top of his thrush again, then mine will begin to fade away a bit - it did initially improve after a week, but it has flared up again. I'm using the Daktarian cream after every feed, but I'm also trying to be really good about washing my bras at 60 and using lots of clean breast pads to stop it spreading.

How long did it take for you to see results with the gel on your DS?

Hi Deaconwood

Have only been using it a couple of days but was really surprised how quickly i noticed the change. He also seems less miserable too.

Yes the pain after feeds is awful and i'm finding that my breast feels hot and painful to touch for about half an hour after each feed. I'm using canestan but was instructed to use it only 3 times per day and really hope that it helps to clear it up.
Have taken on board your advice on stopping the spread as hadn't even thought of that .

Thank you
