best formula for breastfed baby

Hi, I've exclusively breastfed my baby for 6-1/2 months. Well, I say exclusively, but she's had about 4 bottles of formula in those 6-1/2 months (ill-advised to top up)

I need to be apart from her for 12-24 hours in a few days and I simply cannot express. I just can't get anything more than an ounce in a half hour. It's so dispiriting.

If I've gone out for the evening she's generally lasted until I can feed her again, but I'll be away for longer this time and it's stressing me out

I've got a NUK latex teat and bottle and a Doidy so I'm sure I can get her to take it.

Since she's started BLW this week I'm happy to give her a bottle of formula, but wondered which one is good to try. I lived in Singapore until last week and they have different brands there (Similac and so on)

Theres no difference in any of the brands - if anything they could add would make it better for babies, they would all have to add it by law.

So just choose whichever you fancy really

cheers, CMOTdibbler, I wasn't so much bothered by the things in it (as I guess they are roughly the same) but more by which one a breastfed baby is least likely to object to in taste terms.

never used it myself beyond a couple of cup feeds, but i should think whatever you can get pre-made in a carton would be easiest then you don't need to worry about making it up.

you might have to express while you're away from her for your own comfort. i had to starve ds for an operation and i didn't express because similarly to you i'd never got anything out so didn't see the need. well that was a mistake - blocked duct.

Thanks fishie. I was planning to express and have my much hated pump at the ready!

I've not cup fed before - any tips? She's not able to quite do it herself.

i only did it for first few days, ds didn't bf at first. very different proposition with a 6mo, she might go for a sippy cup - have you tried her with water?

Hi Dorisbonkers, I solely BF my DD until 6months and she resisted ever taking a bottle or formula until 8months but now very happily guzzles anything I put in front of her. She seemed to like Aptamil more than others but that's just a personal thing with her.

Not yet tried water, but am soon to. She's an early baby and not yet completely sitting unaided but had very good neck control from early on. I've just this last week started BLW and she's got good hand control but I don't reckon she could manage a Doidy unaided.

I'll try water this lunchtime. Thanks.
