Is this a blocked duct? Help please...

DS is nearly 12 months old and is having a couple of bf each day (and up to 4 during the night last few nights!). I've had what feels like the beginning of a blocked duct for the last 4 days. It's a very tender, firm wedge shaped lump on the inside edge of right breast. It hasn't become as painful as previous ones and doesn't seem to be progressing to mastitis symptoms nor has it resolved with ibuprofen and feeding on that side (as is usually the case). DS seems to be happy feeding from that side but it doesn't seem to be helping to reduce the lumpy feeling nor the tenderness. Has anyone experienced similar? Any advice? Wondering if I should see GP (who hasn't been the most supportive where bf is concerned) as suddenly realised perhaps I shouldn't be blase about breast lumps (don't want to be paranoid either).

Mega congrats for feeding still!!!

Try feeding and putting baba's chin on the lump. Lower jaw is most effective at getting milk so this milk help ease it along. It might look like cheese when it comes out but is safe to drink.

Can you see breastfeeding group of infant feeding coordinator?

I have had a lot of blocked ducts, usually when I ovulate, always in the same place- inside right breast, wedge-shaped- and always treated the same way. I have just had one that lasted 4 days, was slightly different though in the same place. It didn't get worse at all and didn't develop into mastitis which others have if I couldn't unblock them. It felt very bruised though and the lump was visible, especially during letdown. I forced myself to very firmly massage it for a couple of hours to get it to go in the end. It hurt. A lot.

Thanks to you both, feeling reassured.
Will try and pop into local bf group tomorrow, that's a great idea, long time since we've been there!

i've had the same - bruise-like feeling and all. im sure some hardcore massage will work it through. try it with some baby oil in a hot bath (if you're allowed the chance!)

ps - castiel...are you a fan of the winchester boys by any chance??!

I had the same sort of thing some time ago - wedge shaped, hardish and lumpy under the skin. I tried to get my DS to feed off that side as much as possible and also massaged it quite firmly too. It eventually went away no problems.

alannabanana, I admit a small crush on the elder of the two and a certain celestial companion of theirs. Never miss it. You watch?

Sorry to hijack Montifer, how's the duct?

All settled down today, hoorah!
