GMTV - Breastfeeding Awareness Week

Anyone just watched the GMTV piece on breastfeeding? Poor woman had bad advice but so not a balanced arguement and certainly not increasing the 'awareness' and normalising breastfeeding in the slightest

Apparently more coming up later.

Arrrgh, on Lorraine Kelly now.

'I paid for my boobs, so I wouldn't want to ruin them...'

MamacitaGordita · 11/05/2009 08:54

Oooh brilliant, more insights into bf from GMTV. Very helpful and erudite.

Not!

Laughable really! I really don't think the Page 3 lady typifies bf mothers. The producers wanted two 'extremes' on a bf spectrum and in doing so ignored the vast vast majority of women who want to bf, struggle due to pants info and support, and give up with regret. But that just doesn't make good tv.

Not that what we got was very good tv either!

rubyslippers · 11/05/2009 08:55

this was exactly what i would expect from GMTV - such a shame

StealthPolarBear · 11/05/2009 08:56

is it this week?
Well done GMTV - not that I saw it

littlelamb · 11/05/2009 08:59

I flicked on to see that page 3 model too. What tripe. I undersand that there are people who don't want to bf but honestly why go to extreme examples?? Lets do a MN boob-in on Lorraine's sofa

MrsMattie · 11/05/2009 11:57

I saw the crappy little 'news' piece they did on it this morning. Some mum was wheeled in to say 'I breastfed for months, Why wouldn't you want to do the best for your children?' in a superior tone of voice.

Awareness my arse. Just another excuse to churn out the same tired old myths and stereotypes.

mosschops30 · 11/05/2009 12:01

I watched the bits on Lorraine Kelly, and thought 'why have they picked the worse two examples from the british public'.
Some airhead who just wants her boobs for sex, and another who said that breastfeeding is better because you lose weight and yet sits there looking like something the cat dragged in!

The thing that turned me in hospital towards breastfeeding were those people who were very relaxed about it, didnt make a thing about it, and therefore made me relax and it helped.

IMHO nothing worse than someone making you feel inadequate because you cant or wont breastfeed. Most women know that breast is best but that doesnt mean its right for everyone.
Women should be supported in whatever choice they make and not be made to feel inferior whatever happens
