Milk blister?

I think I have a milk blister. On Thursday, I woke up with a very sore right hand breast. The whole area felt bruised but there were no lumps or redness. I spent the day applying hot flannels and massaging that side. By the evening the pain was gone. I have been trying to feed as often as possible on that side ever since.

Last night I noticed a white 'spot' on my nipple. I am sure it is not thrush. Again I have put heat on it and massaged. I did get a bit of 'stuff' out of it but it is still there. (sorry if that's a bit grim). It is not especially painful.

Assuming it is a milk blister, what is the best thing to do? Am worried that by 'picking' at it, I will make things worse rather than better. Do I just carry on with the heat before nursing?

TIA

I had one a few weeks ago and dealt with it by scraping at it with my fingernail until it popped and then loads and loads of milk gushed out (have tissues nearby!). Don't think that's the recommended approach though! Have you had a look at the kellymom page? I think heat, massage and feeding from that side are the suggested remedies, so sounds as though you're doing the right things

Some info here too.

Thanks for the information and the links.

Have just had a hot bath and tried hand expressing. Milk is flowing from that point (a bit slowly, I thought) but it still looks as if some is trapped under the skin. Will carry on with heat and massage.

Are you better now, Dita? Did yours clear and not come back?
