Please help nipple thrush during pregnancy

My DD is nearly 12 months and thankfully BF has been a dream for us both until now. Im currently 17 weeks pregnant and have thrush in my breasts, the pain between feeds is unbearable I went to see the dr yesterday who said that due to pregnancy he will only prescribe me cream for my nipples, after a lot of reading on the subject I still have my doubts that this will help the pain as it seems to have spread to my milk ducts. What im asking is has anyone been in a similar position to me and been prescribed something more helpful than cream, is there anything else I can take for the pain that will aid treatment or have I got to just stick this out untill the end of my pregnancy?

Oh Sugarkane That must be difficult. One of my closest friends had a similar problem when bf'ing, and I think she took something that was pretty strong, so I would've thought you probably couldn't take that while pg. Has your DD got it in her mouth too?
Well done you for carrying on, it is so tough sometimes.
ps I will ask friend what it was she took.

grapefruit seed extract has seemed to help me - though not sure if it is okay when pg

Breaking open a capsule of acidophilus and rubbing on the nipple also seemed to help get the balance right

And using disposable breast pads and changing at every feed

best of luck, the pain is excrutiating

Yes she has it in her mouth which I am treating with a gel prescribed by dr, so if I can get my breats sorted it should stop reinfection.

Will have a look into grapefruit seed extract and pregnancy fingers crossed for me. I have just sent DP out for disposable pads and a new hot water bottle as keeping them warm seems to help a lot, I would have asked him to get the extract but god knows what he would come back with.

Thank you both and will keep you informed.

I had this early on in my bf career and it's horrendous. The only thing that shifted it for me were 2 courses of Fluconazole. The canesten/daktarin/nystatin thing just didn't work for me. I took GSE too but I reckon the Fluconazole was the thing that worked. Not sure if you can take it while pregnant though, I'll see if I can find out.
for you though, hope it gets better quickly!

The second one says that it shouldn't be used during pregnancy or if breastfeeding - I had two courses while bfing after trying everything else. Sorry the links aren't much help at all!
