I want to go out...

My 8-week-old baby is exclusively breastfed and is now 13lbs. I give her the last feed before bed at 8pm and then have a few drinks - a gin or two or couple of glasses of wine - with my dinner. My baby doesn't wake until 4am or later for a feed so I reckon the small amount of alcohol which passes through to my milk is out of my system by then. Thing is, I'd like to go out for a few evenings soon with friends and not worry about my alcohol consumption but my baby won't take a bottle - of EBM or formula. So my question is, how much should I worry about feeding her after a night out? And please, no judgey-pants mummies...

Your liver removes the alcohol from your blood stream throughout the evening when you are drinking so as long as you drink moderately you'll be absolutely fine.

I'm assuming you're not going to be dead drunk as you wouldn't be able to stay awake or hold her to feed her would you!?

So I suppose my answer is don't really worry too much about the alcohol in the breast milk but DO worry about how safely you can hold/change/feed her when drunk.

IMO if you are in charge of a child you should remain sober enough to deal with any unexpected emergency.

Gosh, go out, have a good time, a few glasses of wine and then come back and feed her.No worries whatsoever.

I have always (exclusivly bf) 3 babies and enjoyed myself. If she can go that long between feeds then go out and have a good time.

I never got pissed mind you as i knew i was in charge of feeding when they woke up but a few won't hutr!!

Don't worry about it - just remember if you co-sleep not to after you've had a drink. Enjoy your night out

I was thinking ?merry? rather than ?hammered?, but thanks for your replies - I'll go and enjoy myself.
