DS2 is 26 weeks old tomorrow and I did it.

Gave up with DS1 at 6 weeks.

DD BF till 10 months but had the occasional bottle of formula.

DS2.....BF all the way . This is a really big deal for me, and inspite of a wobble earlier this week that had me almost reaching for the Aptamil, we made it!!!!

Thanks in no small part to MN and all the support/advice and friendly words I've had here over the last few years.

Now looking forward to beating the 10months that I did with DD (I only stopped due to issues when pregnant with DS2)

debs, I'm quite happy to feed as long as he wants to. I would have done that with DD but she gave up when I was pregnant as my supply dipped quite early on.

funnily enough she was asking to try some yesterday and would have had a go if I'd let her, but it's been almost a year and I doubt she'd know what to do without biting!!

Daisy - rofl at wiper action.

I offered dd1 a try on mine, she ran off shouting 'urghhhhh' and giggling. Seemed to like it when she was a young 'un but there you are. If I stuck a few beads on my bf bra and wrote Lilly Kelly accross mi boobs no doubt she'd be there.

drowninginclutter · 02/05/2009 22:40

Congratulations - it is an amazing feeling when you can look at a 6 month old and know every single bit of them came from you!

aurorec · 02/05/2009 23:48

Well done!!!! and good luck with the weaning DS is nearly 8 months and he refuses to eat solids...

LackaDAISYcal · 03/05/2009 00:01

ach, they all get there in the end though aurorec!

mine seems to not care what he is fed, as long as food comes from somewhere.

Bravo and hurrah

CharCharGabor · 03/05/2009 00:31

Well done

Divvy · 03/05/2009 09:15

Well done Daisy, I too have only cracked bf with my 5th child!

The longest I have got with the others was 2 weeks, so for me to get to 9 months is a wonderful achievement.

I feel I am proof that just becuase it hasnt worked out before, it can in the future.

moondog · 03/05/2009 11:02

That's terrific too Divvy!
Does success this time around help you to analyse what wasn't working the least times you tried i wonder?
Have you had any remarkable revelation or thoguhts that yuo would care to share or would share with someone in RL?

'It is an achievement and you should be proud of it because as we all know, sometimes we really have to fight to achieve our goals. Bfing or otherwise.'

Hear hear Tree. Sometimes things just are tough, breastfeeding being no exception. (It was really hard for me in the beginning for weeks and weeks.)

suiledonn · 03/05/2009 11:16

Well done Daisy.

Divvy · 03/05/2009 12:19

moondog The thing that made a difference this time, was a lovely chat with a midwife on the post-nat ward at 3am! This place, and and this one for videos of good latch.

The midwife had just been on a breastfeeding course, and came to me with her knitted boobie and dolly, when I asked her for help.

I think what really sunk in was her saying as long as most of the brown area is in the babies mouth, it dont matter what what up, down or around the baby is!

Also, if its hurting stop, and re-latch again, rather than sit there for hours with the baby sucking on the end of your nipple. Which I now know is where I went wrong the times before!

moondog · 03/05/2009 12:30

How great Divvy.
It proves what we keep on saying, re knowledge, support and trained medical personnel, doesn't it?

Why don't you write a quick note to that unit (ccing to head of service) singling this woman out and saying you were aware of her training and how it helped you overcome past difficulties. That will really mean something and make the powers that be realise that investing in staff training pays dividends.)

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 12:34

Well done Daisy

Divvy · 03/05/2009 12:41

I am ashamed to say, I cant remember her name. I think she went on the course off her own back as well.

I would love to tell her personaly how much she helped me, but without her name it a no goer

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 12:45

I'm also really impressed that you persevered - 5 times!
It's shame you can't remember her name- I take it she was just a passing MW?

Divvy · 03/05/2009 12:58

She was one of the 3 night shift midwives. The night before she gave me a wonderful bedbath as well, as she felt really bad as I had been left without being washed, by other staff.

I would know her if I saw her.

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:02

That's quite a good reason for planning no6 - "so I can identify that MW from last time"
Well of she was one of three it may still be worth writing?

chocolateismyonlyweakness · 03/05/2009 13:06

Only read the OP - very well done! My dc are 4 and 6, I breastfed both for 6 months with a little bit of formula here and there.

Divvy · 03/05/2009 13:08

You know what, I am going to write!

I am also planning no6, so can cover all bases

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:13

you are really desperate to find her aren't you?
Good luck planning no 6

moondog · 03/05/2009 13:23

Divvy, if you know the night, know she was one of three, know she did a course recently and sort of remember what she looked like, they will be able to find out who it was easily.

Please write-you will help so many other women by doing so-women who have had a togh time like you.

tanglefairy · 03/05/2009 13:41

Just wanted to say awesome :DDD

cakewench · 03/05/2009 15:52
