Cluster feeding in 5 week old... how long will this go on?

Just lost a long post but must be fate so will keep it brief.

My 5 wk old DS has gained 4lb since birth on breastmilk, some ebm feeds and a handful of formula feeds.

I've been trying to express to get a stock to go out during the day/evening occasionally - the expressing is going fine but he is in the last few days cluster feeding all day from 11/12 to whenever I give up and top up with the ebm - between 2 and 6 hours. I feel like it's a game of chicken and at the moment I'm the one losing my nerve.

Parents are visiting tomorrow (they live 100 miles away) and I really wanted to go out in the afternoon with them, doesn't look likely if I have to feed the whole time they are here though.

Family telling me to keep giving the ebm top ups but that's not going to increase the supply.

There appears to be no confusion with breast/ bottle, when he feeds at other times he's on between 20 mins and an hour, offering both breasts and he feeds to sleep or 'blissed out' state. In night am changing nappy between sides.

Any advice?

Thank you!

Sorry wasn't clear, baby would come out too, but he latches best in rugby ball hold and I get 'exposed' a lot, and not bf'd in public yet - and can't do it for 5 hours if am in a shop. Would look at a sling but he doesn't feed well in a front held position.

He's had 5 ffs.

Oh yes, my Mum didn't manage to bf me and so is very proud! Thank you so much for the reassurance.
