How long for periods to come back?

Am still breastfeeding DS (14.5 months) and have not had a single period since he was born. Not one - is this bad? DS still has 2 milk feeds a day, one first thing and another at bedtime. That's normal, right?

Was starting to think about the possiblity of TTC but with no periods this isn't very likely.

If I go to the doctor I know he will tell me to stop feeding DS, along with everybody else I've asked about this! Am only going to stop when he want's to stop, and am weary of all the gasps of astonishment that I am 'still' feeding him.

What do do?

Sorry - what to do, that should have been.

How long for periods to come back? How long is a piece of string....

Everyone is different. From a few weeks right through until you have fed your last drop of breastmilk, and anywhere in between.

I would recommend that you read Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. She briefly covers fertility whilst breastfeeding, but the main advantage would be that you would be able to look out for the signs of your fertility returning. For example, some women have a few cycles where they don't ovulate. Some ovulate before they have any bleeding.

Good luck, I hope you find some answers.

Lucky you! Mine came back a couple of weeks after I started weaning DD at 6.5 months - even though I didn't drop any feeds. (I carried on BF til about 17 months when I was preg and thoguht the strain was getting a bit much on my body)
Good on you for BF so long. I don't know about TTC with the BF but maybe be a bit erratic with the feeding? Miss some evenings or mornings so your body gets a jolt?
Or do some basal temperature monitoring so you can detect if you're ovulating that way. People often get preggers even when their periods haven't returned. Good luck with it.

I am the wrong person to ask about getting pg when breastfeeding though! DS is 3.5 and I have been ttc for almost 2.5yrs.

I was asking the same question just a month ago. My DS is 12 1/2 months and mine came back just as I was thinking about when they would. I had cut from 2 to 1 feed and for me that was enough (only had one so far). I could feel my body changing getting crampy, bit more hormonal feelings so guessed something was changing. I still plan to keep the one BF at night although do wonder how much milk is there. May start ttc soon too.

Sorry mawbroon that it's taking you a while.

That is they came back at 12 months.

Came back at about 11 months when I was only doing one feed - only had two and now pg.
