Fighting 5mo

DS is 5mo next week and is bf. His daytime feeds have become terrible. He thumps his fists against me, pinches, arches his back and clamps down very hard on my nipples. I don't think it's wind as he is still like it after I burp him.

In comparison, his night feeds are lovely, calm affairs and there is none of this agitation and fussing.

Tbh, it's making feeding him really unpleasant and public feeding is awful as he is constantly pulling off and I dread it.

By the end of the feed, I'm really unsure as to whether he's actually had a decent amount.

Any ideas?

How long had he done this for Smurf?

Have you changed anything about your diet that he may not take too?

Don't thinks so. He's been doing it for a few days now. Sometimes he seems frustrated but sometimes he's quite distracted.

Feeding him at the moment and he was a complete pain on the left boob but seems a bit more settled on the right.

I'm flummoxed!!

smurfette - my DS did this at exactly the same age (you can probably still find my desperate post about it!) I even took him to the GP as he was behaving so oddly.

Has he always been a bit distractible? The GP found nothing wrong with him and said that it was probably just a phase (as ever!) and part of him realising his independence. This may be nonsense but it did let me relax and get through it. Don't get me wrong, he's still a bit of a b*gger to feed (8 mo now) but the worst of it lasted only a couple of weeks. Do you think there are any teeth lurking about? Oh - and my DS is a strapping lad now so I do think they get what they need from you even though it doesn't always feel like it after a 10 minute wrestling match!

Oh - and like you, he was a dream to feed at night...

Think the world just gets a lot more interesting than Mummy's boobs for some babies

Thanks artifarti. It helps to think that this might not last too long.

Yes he is a bit distractible and does look around when feeding. A wrestling match is exactly what it's like. I feel quite battered after it and look forward to the cosier, cuddly night feeds!

No advice sorry, but watching this thread as my ds is exactly the same.

I feel for you. No answers but I know what it's like.

DS is 9 months and it's been like trying to feed an octopus in a string bag since day one and still is, apart from those lovely cuddles at night!

Vagely remember a nice calm month at about 5 months when his naps matched his feeds and I only ever fed him when drowsy.

Got a real scratching this morning whilst he was trying to twang my bra strap...must do his nails tonight!!
