should my periods be back so soon?

Im exclusively breastfeeding my 5 week old dd and yesterday my periods came back very heavy and have continued today.

She feeds constantly and alot through the night should they have returned so soon?

Is this anyhting to worry about?

Is it definitely your period? It's not your lochia re-starting?

It's not abnormal to get your periods back while exclusively feeding. I did.

Any smell to the blood? Pain? Anything other than blood coming out?

Mine did.
Both times.
Once was exclusively breast feeding and once mixed. It made no difference, they were back before my six week check both times round. Also very heavy.

Oh yes, mine much heavier now too.

I was going to start something similar yesterday, and I am exclusivly bf ds.

ds is 4 1/2 weeks old and after 10 days of no bleeding I stopped using pads yesterday, and low and behold bright red blood which had gone through to my trousers

I thought it was my period, but it stopped yesterday pm and have none since, so I guess its just my lochia starting again

Mine came back every time within 6 weeks. I was distinctly unimpressed

lilymolly, have you been busy or done anything quite physical? This can make your bleeding start again.

no not done anything physical, apart from clean a house and look after a 3 year old and new born

Its stopped today, so it may have been a one off

Mine came back early and TBH I felt cheated.

no itsdefinately a period i had really bad cramps and backache and pms yesterday and came on a little then really heavy and red 2day. my bleeding stopped after about 2 weeks so i dont think it would be lochia coming back.. my milk supply doesnt seem as good could ths have anything to do with the periods returning?

I bf loads at night and coslept with dc2 and the sod still returned at 8 weeks post partum which I was distinctly about. though the period pain and PMS only really kicked in about a year later. Weirdly, first time round DC1 slept thru from early on but my periods didn't come back for 6 months - bizarre!

yeah i was not pleased atall to see the return of AF but nevermind not like sex was back on the agenda anyway lol
