Can't keep up with demand through expressing!

I am very pissed off at the moment as I have gone back to work, am expressing whist hubby gives my 5 month old gives previously expressed milk but I seem to be only expressing 10fl oz (in 2 sessions,) which seems to be going down, (today only 8 fl oz,) and hubby says he gives babs 24 fl oz whilst I'm at work. I feed babs in the morning and in the evening and he has now started to wake at night to feed, (he was going through). I express once in the evening too, and can't fit in any more expressing sessions at work or home, it's so frustrating! Babs is going to have to have some formula bottles as the stock of expressed milk is nearly gone. Any suggestions?

In addition to the sessions you already have for pumping, maybe try pumping after the feeds you have with him as well. Or you could try feeding him on one side and pumping on the other for some of the feeds. On days off, have a nurse-in and offer no bottles at all....you could add 2 or 3 more pumping sessions on those days if possible.

Well today I managed to express first thing only 1 fl oz from 1 boob after feeding, (poor for first thing in the morning for me,) and then I had 3.5 fl oz from am expressing and 4 fl oz from pm expressing. Fed again when home and again upstairs and tried expressing from other side whilst he fed, but it was a logistical nightmare couldn't fit bottle and kit close enough as babs body in the way. He also stopped feeding as he was distracted by the noise. What a nightmare! Am going to try expressing again tonight at about 21:30.

Hello, 24 ounces seems quite alot, do you think your baby might be having a growth spurt? 25 ounces per entire day is thought to be the average amount for an exclusively BF baby.
It could be a growth spurt, or one of the suggestions mentioned on kellymom here www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkcalc.html for baby taking too much milk. (Fast bottle flow, bottle feeding for comfort, & meeting babies need to suck). There other links there for increasing pumping output.
You need to get to a point where he's not drinking much more than you've pumped the day before, so he demands the rest from you whilst you're together, relying on a previously pumped stash can have the same effect on supply as topping up with formula.

I got around the same amounts as you pumping at work, 7-8 ounces per day (but in one mega session!). My DS just had this while at nursery spilt into 2 feeds at around 10am and 1.30pm, I could collect at 4.30pm and fed him there, then again once home, more at bedtime and probably at least once in the night. He was older at 7 months, but still wasn't really eating any solids.
Hopefully you have the long weekend ahead to get lots of feeds in, and a shorter week next week to supply for.

Good luck Em
