How did you get your routine??

Some of you have routines for your babies as litlle as 3 months. How did you get to that? I have ds2 now 4 weeks (too young for routine, I know), but ds1 never settled into any kind of routine until he was on 3 meals..

How are you doing it?? Do you start of with a set feeding time in the morning or night and let the rest follow?? Or did it happen naturally

I don't do routines - the sole routine I have is be at school before 9 am and arrive at school before 3.15

Daniel has just fed as and when at 11 months
he has his own rough pattern I just work round it

shish - yes you get them up at the same time everyday and then nap them every two hours and the feeds fit in around it when they're hungry iyswim.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 25/04/2009 15:51

I never bothered with any of that - the whole idea of getting up when I could sleep confounded me!

DD was pretty good though - she was easy really after the first 6 weeks - she kind of got into her own routine. It changes as they grow though so you have to be flexible and notice when they want to drop a nap or whatever. If you keep your eyes peeled for when they want a sleep/feed whatever and go along with it, some babies are naturally quite clock-worky (mine was). Others simply aren't...

If you are very keen on routine there are books around with them in.

Routines, loosely based on GF, for both dcs (just did the bits that made sense to me). Did with ds1 from about 10 weeks and pretty much from the start with ds2.

I love routines, and feel much happier having one, and both dcs seem to be the same. I've never had to wake mine (sadly), but I had set times that I'd aim to have them napping or feeding, although it isn't/wasn't always possible.

My 2 have found their own 'rhythm' tbh- demand fed the whole time... thankfully after the first couple of weeks they went into every 3 hours mode.
DD needed every 3 hours at night too... for many many months...DS just feeds once a night, is only 11weeks. He also has to fit in with dropping dd at kindergarten, but he's fine with that.

Ds1 is the reason why I ask cos he obviously has a rough routine and I have to fit in ds2 around that. He generally feeds every 3 hours and sometimes 2 (demand feeding), although today has been a bit more varied..

Always demand fed ds1. he used to feed every 2 hours, sometimes less right up until I started him on solids. Mind you ds1 was breast fed and ds2 is bottle fed - don't if that makes much of a difference?

Gian - what age did you start that? How the hell do you make them nap when you want them to? Ds 1 would never have done that. I waited for him to fall into his own routine.
