I intend to bf my dd for another year or so if all goes well, or until she wants to wean. But I just have no clue how often to feed her at the moment so she is getting a good balance of solid food / milk.

She has always been demand fed, and for many months there was a lot of demand, but since she can feed herself so well now she almost never asks for a bf. This afternoon she refused one when I offered ... in favour of pumpkin seeds (?!?). Yesterday she only had solids all day because I didn't offer any bf and she didn't ask.
Is this normal?
I don't want her to wean yet but I don't want to hold her back either ....
So how often do other ppl feed their 11mo?

My ds2 is 10 1/2 months and only bf morning and night now.

well, "don't offer don't refuse" is often used as a weaning technique. apparently around a year old is common time for them to cut back on feeding, hence many parents using it as a time to wean totally.

if she seems uninterested and you want to continue I would just offer more frequently.

at that age ds2 was still feeding at least 2 hourly but I miss it now he has stopped lol

My dd is nearly 11 months and she doesn't ask for it either. But she doesn't refuse it when offered (although haven't tempted her with pumpkin seeds yet ) so I'm just giving her a feed at morning and night. She has lots of dairy foods during the day so I'm hoping this is ok... she seems happy and healthy enough.

The fact this has happened naturally for us is a huge relief as I go back to work in three weeks.

yesterday: I see what you mean .... but how often should I offer? 2 hourly is prolly
extreme if she's not asking

darkmere: I would have been going back to work too but I lost my job, so now I have
nothing else to do with my time except bf.
The pumpkin seeds were a shock to me as well. I suspect she just likes them
because they're small. Surely she can't like them by the handful just for the taste?!?

If you want to keep going I would offer at least twice daily.
Having said that I am just in the process of stopping to BF DS3 at 13 months, mainly because I am fed up and doing perfunctory feeds 2x/day that lasted no longer than 3 min did not seem worth the grey BF bras any longer . He had just not been keen anymore, so gave me the excuse I had been looking for...
