dd4 has damaged my breast, can it be fixed?

dd4, somehow, has created little cuts all over my breasts. on one side its very sore and cut. she claws whn she feeds, but also has nipped as is teething.

i am not sure if the largest cut can heal as she keeps catching it and making it bleed. its not in a psoition where i can put a palster on it either.

i dont know what to do.

can you put scratch mitts on her or give her something else to fiddle with? sounds painful

PrammyMammy · 19/04/2009 18:44

hey, i've heard of bf beads for dc to play with, they are like a necklace, not sure where you get them from though. There was a thread on here about them.

Nipple shields for a while migt give them arest.

misdee · 19/04/2009 18:54

she holds a muzzy someimes, and i have tried with a necklace, but she just wants to knead me.

will shields affect supply after 5months?

Do you mean the nipple or the breast? DD is the same - keeps scratching at me and if Im topless trying to grab the other nipple.

I try and not expose too much skin or to hold her hand whilst she feeds. Sounds really sore

misdee · 19/04/2009 23:12

its on edge of the areola. it the sort of cut i would usually dab with antiseptic. but dont want to because of dd4 feeing.

the nipple is fine, though she had a good chew earlier. ouch!

DD3 (8 mo) scatches at me all the time. I hold her hand a lot, enclosing her whole hand inside mine, IYSWIM. Could you perhaps put some lansinoh on the cut to help it heal? I also cut her fingernails quite short.....

misdee · 19/04/2009 23:27

i cut her nails short as possible.

will try holding her hand, but she is quite determined. i didnt relaise how much damage she had done until i checked today.

The other thing I do sometimes is to put my own hand over my breast next to her face, so she scratches my hand instead. She is inclined to grab at my hand and move it away, but at least it distracts her from scratching.
Will come back if I think of any other strategies - however, can hear her stirring now so time to go to bed.

How's it going misdee? Has it healed? Was wondering if maybe you could put some gloves on her till your breast is healed up - I know it seems extreme, but I can't think of anything else to help you and I've been worrying about it

littlesilversnowbeetle · 21/04/2009 11:39

put one of dh's socks on her hand and pull it right up so she can't wriggle it off.

misdee · 21/04/2009 17:24

i've been feeding her in the rugby hold on that side, and its looking better.
