Do you think I should have BF in a (empty) church?

DS2 was starving today while we were out. The cafes were full, I won't feed in a loo and we were a good walk from the car. I ended up on a wall outside a church and afterwards, DH and I were wondering if it would have been ok to feed in teh church.

The doors were open but there was no service or anything going on.

WWYD? Just wondering really, doubt the situation will crop up again!

YES! People feed in churches during services (I've done it myself), so why not when it's empty?

littlebrownmouse · 10/04/2009 20:54

I would but have done it in full church during morning worship many times too.

thisisyesterday · 10/04/2009 20:54

well i'd have been happy enough on the wall outside if it was nice weather.
if it'd been raining or I Just wanted to be inside then yes, I would have used the church with no qualms at all

whomovedmychocolate · 10/04/2009 20:55

Well JESUS was fed by MARY that way and if you look at the windows you'll probably see an image of it so yes go for it next time.

Besides, churches are a place of refuge aren't they?

tassisssss · 10/04/2009 20:55

Absolutely feed in the church next time!

Yep yep yep. I always feed during Mass and even during his Baptism

Lilyloo · 10/04/2009 20:58

If the weather was nice i would have happily fed as you did otherwise i would have shelterd in church , yes.

Grendle · 10/04/2009 21:09

Well, if you're religiously inclined, then God made breasts for babies to feed from, so why would there be a problem ?

LackaDAISYcal · 10/04/2009 21:40

I'd definately feed in the church

Concordia · 10/04/2009 21:42

I arrived ten minutes late for church with DS and DD last sunday, and proceeded to BF a (very overhungry) DD straighaway
It was a children's service and the church is informal. No one batted an eyelid.

IwishIwasmorechocolatey · 10/04/2009 21:46

Yes, I would have done. I've fed during services so no different really if the church is empty.

EffiePerine · 10/04/2009 21:47

yes

MamaHobgoblin · 10/04/2009 23:17

Yes! Of course! What do you think Mary did?

I feed DS most weeks in a church, come to that - we go to a (non-religious) music group held in a chapel off the nave of the church. He likes the stained glass!

theherbgarden · 10/04/2009 23:21

I always used to breastfeed in church during services.

AitchTwoOh · 10/04/2009 23:24

oh yes, in fact god loves you more if you bf, that's a religious FACT. glad to hear it's all going well, mamag.

mothersmilk · 11/04/2009 09:55

i breastfed at my nephews funeral it didnt worry me at all nor did it offend my sil and there was only 3 months between my lo and her lo

ShowOfHands · 11/04/2009 09:57

All the good Christians are doing it.

MamaG · 11/04/2009 12:52

I think I may have been more intimidated by the church, than actually bf somewhere IYKWIM! I only do weddings, christenings and funerals. The weather was a smidge drizzly but BabyG didn't seem to mind.

After 22 weeks () I'm happy to BF anywhere usually!

oh lordy be - of course you should have gone and sat inside!

I've not only fed 2 DS's during services, I've fed DS3 while playing for a service

MamaG · 11/04/2009 12:58

MaryBS · 11/04/2009 12:59

Yes, I would (and I'm a minister).

BunnyLebowski · 11/04/2009 20:25

A few weeks ago I was out on an epic walk with dd and ended up feeding her in a graveyard perched on a tombstone!

You did the right thing!

treedelivery · 11/04/2009 20:30

If God glares at breast feeding mammas then bollocks to the lot of it I say. Also we were not born with bfing disguising pashminas afixed to the shoulder [like superman] so thats proof God is onside.

so 100% you did an ok thing.

mumblecrumble · 11/04/2009 20:40

AbsolUTELY!!!!!!

Christians believe God made your boobs you know. Get them out and be proud to feed!

Last time I went to our church Minister was on maternity leave and in service and we ended up feeding at the same time. I was like "may I?" and she was like "yeah, want a cushion"

Yippeee
