My LO is gaining weight and feeding well but we spend a fair amount of time trying to latch-on well which most of the time never quite works as I can't quite get her to open her mouth wide enough (thus causing some/lots of pain for me). Has anyone been through this and have any good tips.

I position her nose to nipple but she doesnt manage to stretch up to reach it (and I'm letting her head have enough room to lean back to stretch).

Rub underneath chin or cheek sometimes helps...

Try reclining on a bed with loads of pillows and put the baby between your boobs face down. Let her relax for a while and then see if she can work her way over (maybe with some gentle nudging rather than positioning). Gravity works in teh baby's favour - worth a try - it's part of the "biological nurturing" approach if you want to Google for more info. Make sure the room is warm and private. It takes patience but can work if you are stressed about positioning (which I was with #1). It is much more relaxing and you may even both doze off which is just lovely GL

I had the same issue with my DS when he was tiny, but to be honest if she's putting on weight & is latching on well, then she should work it out on her own within a few days. Babies quickly become stronger & more capable to open mouth wider. I really wouldn't worry, I think if she just bfs a lot she'll soon work it out
