scabby areola

Hi,

I'm BFing my 11-day old and we have had a lot of problems, but we are finally getting there with latching etc. I had very sore, cracked nipples on both boobs which have really improved now latching is good.

one areola is quite 'scabby' and raised, and quite red. I've been using vaseline on it as it keeps sticking to my breast pad and when I am able to separate the two it leaves yellowy stuff a bit like a scab on it. it's pretty horrible! It is her preferred side so I thought it might be some sort of 'toughening up' but I'm not sure now!

Any ideas what might be the problem - and do I need to see my GP? with bank hols about to start I am reluctant to take this route if there is anything I can do to help myself at home.

Any advice greatly appreciated, thank you

Get yourself a tube of Lansinoh at once! It is magic stuff.

Not a great help but try the Tommee tippee breast pads - they don't stick!

Def agree with Lansinoh as well.
