Not sure if this is the right place to post - but I'm bf, so I'll give it a try!

My 5 week old ds has been increasingly sick during/after feeds for the last couple of days, adn sometimes there has been projectile vomiting. Saw GP, admitted to children's ward for assessment - and told its reflux because 'he's a good weight' i.e. on 98th centile. They said he's got mild reflux. He's bf every two hours/every hour, and hasn't been as sick since yesterday, so do I trust what they said in hospital, i.e. that it is reflux, or should I pursue this pyloric stenosis... Both my Mum and her brother had it as babies, and I'm thinking that maybe it is in the early stages; I suppose all I can do is watch and wait to see if it gets worse, but it is very frightening. Just wondered if anyone has any experience/advice here?

no experience myself but someone I know on another forum had a child with pyloric stenosis and it was quite different/more severe than just reflux.
baby was really very poorly until she was operated on.

I'd go with what they've said and see if there's an improvement before pursuing it any further. do talk to your GP about it though if you're worried and hopefully they can put your mind at rest

Thanks - I will try to wait and see. Think I'll go to see HV at clinic tomorrow, get him weighed, and discuss my concerns. I know hes not ill at all at the moment, just concerned that things could get worse and he could start losing weight/getting dehydrated if it is the early stages of pyloric stenosis. Don't know how quickly things progress...

One of my maternity charges had pyloric stenosis. He started throwing up on a Friday, was seen at hospital on Saturday where he had an ultrasound, DR said it was reflux. He continued to throw up during the night at home - the scariest thing I've had to deal with! And was readmitted to hospital on the Sunday - DR stopped BFing and he had reflux meds and formula and he continued to throw up, on the Monday he had lost even more weight and the DRs were saying he may have webbing in his stomach to prevent him from digestion! He continued throwing up on Monday night and on Tuesday was seen by a specialist at another hospital where he had an ultrasound and very quickly they realised it was PS. He was admitted to PICU and had to have IV cos he was so dehydrated he was operated on Wednesday morning and made a full recovery. He was 12 days old! So from my POV it progresses quite fast from the Friday to the Wed he lost heaps of weight as was not keeping anything down and looked very poorly by his dianosis.

I would keep a record of when/how much he is eating and also his bowel movements and urine. Definetly get him weighed every day so that you know he is putting on weight. Hope things get better for you.

I'm still extremely mad at the DR who brushed over my concerns and said it was reflux cos he wasn't projectile vomiting and he was so young(usually it appears after six weeks).
