Engorged breast

Need some advice please!! I am bfing my 12 week old twins and it has been going swimmingly. However the last 24 hours my right breast has become engorged. The strange thing is it isn't all over as when your milk comes in, but about a 5cm circle above my nipple. It is now sore to feed on this side. I feed my dts every 3 hours and am still feeding on this side but it hasn't cleared. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am worried incase it gets worse or turns to mastis. Thanks!

Hiya,
I had this aswelll when I was breast feeding- I am sorry to say it took about 24hours before the pain and engogeness went, I was continuously massaging around it and this helped! Not sure what else to do- but good luck and hope it gets better soon.
Xx

I massaged out engorgement(sort of firm stroking towards nipple with fingers )at about 18 weeks or so as well and it did go without mastitis or antibios. I think I also tried tucking one baby under my arm so that he fed at a slightly different angle, rather than across my body. And I think I put greedier feeder on that breast..
I would check with doctor or bfdng helpline straightaway.

Yes, and as you say it was like a knot or lump not complete engorgement. I think it's called a blocked duct..do correct me anyone if I'm wrong. But it was painful and then did go in 48 hours because I kept moving blockage along when feeding ifyswim.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I am still engorged but working on it. Its hard finding the time though due to the twins! I also have a milk blister now to deal with. What fun! I guess it was all going too well!

Dont know how you do it- it was hard enough breast feeding my 2 one at a time (they are 3 and 2)! Hope they get better soon.
