Have just invested in some Silverette nipple shields to try and resolve damage of poor latch over last few weeks.

Has anyone used these? They seem to advise washing in bicarbonate of soda - why? And washing nipples before each feed - again why as this isn't ideal when out and about?

Possibly something to do with avoiding thrush?

I have and they are BRILLIANT. Really helped with cracked nipple. The bicarb is supposed to boost the 'ionising' effect of the silver or something. I did it once or twice a day if I remembered and no, I didn't wash my nipples... As you say, totally impractical. But they were such great things and I can't recommend them highly enough. If you can get over the Barberella look!

They are very space age porn indeed. Showed DH and he was quite excited until I explained what they are for! He declared that under other circumstances they would be rather sexy..so maybe I will get my money's worth one way or another...
