Possibly and odd question! Eczema on breasts

I am 4 months pregnant with DC2. I have had eczema on both breasts for a couple of months now. It is on the nipples and the area over the glandular tissue only so guess it's related to the changes occuring within my breasts. I have been using emollient creams only because I've been worried that using my normal steroid creams will effect the changes that need to occur for breastfeeding to be successful. Am I worrying unnecessarily or could breastfeeding be effected if I use steroid creams?

My eczema is weeping and bleeding so this morning I used 1% hydrocortisone and feel more comfortable than I have in a long time. I failed to breastfeed DD, who was born last July, and became very depressed about this and don't want to do anything that may make it hard this time around.

Benjy....I hope someone will come on with a positive experience for you. I think it sounds like you would also be helped by speaking to a dermatologist and/or a clinical pharmacologist with some knowledge of the effect of your meds on bf.

Hi Benjy, i get eczema when i get sweaty which i did quite a bit when pregnant so did get some on breasts. I found repeatedly changing bras helped & just used a bit of steroid cream when it was really bad.

hi benjy,

i had exactly the same thing with my nipples in pregnancy. i ended up at dermatologist and used strong steriod cream (fucibet) for a couple of days. It completely cleared up and I'm now breastfeeding without any problems. Hope you get it cleared up soon.

Hi Benjy

i have had this problem throughout my second pregnancy and still have it now (have been BFing DS2 for 7 months)

have just seen the consultant dermatologist again this afternoon and he has suggested that i used hydrocortisone 1% during the day and betnovate RD sparingly after a feed when i know i have 3-4 hrs before DS2 will come in contact with my skin. I have also found that changing my breastpads really frequently has helped along with not wearing a bra at night to let the air got to my boobs.

the doc said that its difficult to clear completely whilst i'm BFing as i cant use my usual dermovate or take piriton (used to take this every days before pregnancy/BFing

sorry that i havent got a magic cure but just wanted to let you know your not alone
